Joe Polich, MSW, LCSWA, JD will provide a foundational knowledge to providers who come in contact with patients with cancer who are also experiencing IPV. Beginning with a quick introduction to some basic concepts of the dynamics of IPV in general, we will discuss the intersection of the provision of care to a patient with cancer and the dynamics involved in IPV.

William Wood, MD, MPH will review ways to expand traditional clinic-based cancer navigation to population-based cancer navigation using a central navigation approach. We will discuss how this approach can foster equity in care delivery and outcomes, while incorporating new initiatives that promote quality improvement. We will also talk about how this work fits into the current national environment that surrounds cancer navigation, including the recent development of a learning community and of new proposed billing codes that support the delivery of navigation services.

Sonali Acharya, PharmD. will explain the role of specialty pharmacies. We will discuss accreditation requirements for specialty pharmacies, process to determine which medications are considered specialty and specifically the benefits of a healthcare system specialty pharmacy.

Inadequate nutrition in the setting of cancer can lead to weight loss, malnutrition, difficulty tolerating treatment and/or a decrease in overall quality of life. Ashley Bradshaw, MS, RD, CSO, highlights the importance of proactive nutrition interventions to help improve patient outcomes.
