Dorothy A. Rhoades, MD, MPH, the Director of the Native American Center for Cancer Health Excellence at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, discusses building collaborative partnerships between the cancer center’s clinical and research communities with Oklahoma Tribal Nations and health organizations. To date, cancer center affiliated researchers have collaborated with 29 Tribal Nations and organizations across 45 extramural awards that support research, education, and outreach initiatives.

This course explores two ways to protect today's adolescents from a future cancer diagnosis: HPV vaccination and alcohol use prevention. For each topic, we will examine the latest evidence on cancer risk, address common misconceptions about risk reduction, and preview UNC-based research to advance prevention science in partnership with parents and primary care professionals.

Denise Spector, PhD, MPH, MSN, ANP, FAIHM presents on how choosing a healthy eating pattern can not only reduce risk for major chronic illnesses, but in some cases can also improve outcomes in those living with chronic conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Lee Dagenhart, RN, BSN, and Pati Morfeld, RN, BSN, OCN, will discuss providing thoughtful care for transgender patients going through oncology treatment. They will provide an overview of gender affirming care and associated vocabulary, describe the disparities faced by the transgender population, and provide an explanation of resources available to patients and providers to aid in caring for the transgender population undergoing cancer treatment.
