This webinar, part of the series coordinated by the Southeastern American Indian Cancer health Equity Partnership (SAICEP), features research designed to understand and address HPV-related cancers among American Indians in southeastern North Carolina. The presentation will be conducted by Dr. Ronny Bell (Lumbee), Professor and Chair of the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill, and Dr. Megan Huchko, MD, MPH, Hollier Family Associate Professor of Global Health and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the incidence of HPV-related cancers among American Indians nationally and in North Carolina, as well as the prevalence of factors associated with reduced risk of these cancers (HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening).
  • Become aware of culturally appropriate strategies for conducting research in American Indian communities in southeastern North Carolina
  • Learn about two recently conducted students focused on reducing HPV-related cancers in American Indians in southeastern North Carolina.
