Webinar Description

Robyn Tolley, AGPCNP-BC, will identify cytotoxic vesicant and irritant drugs, evaluation of infiltration and extravasation, recommended non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatments, and when care should be advanced to involve plastic surgery. She will also include an evaluation of risk factors and appropriate preventive measures to reduce the risk of extravasation.

Learning Objectives

  • Distinguish between cytotoxic vesicant and irritant drugs and the difference between infiltration and extravasation
  • Recognize factors that increase the risk of extravasation and appropriate prevention strategies
  • Discuss the pharmacology agents used in the treatment of extravasation
  • Evaluate the staging of extravasation injuries and recognize when to escalate care
