Webinar Description

Dana Casey, MD, radiation oncologist within the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, will describe relevant updates in breast radiation oncology for health care providers throughout the state of North Carolina. This lecture will highlight updates in methods to increase the efficacy of radiation therapy, shorten treatment time, and minimize toxicity.

Learning Objectives

  • Define differences in techniques of adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer, including WBRT vs APBI vs PMRT
  • Describe the role of hypofractionation for early-stage breast cancer and practice changing studies
  • Recognize the role of hypofractionation for PMRT, and improvements in planning with newer techniques like IMRT/VMAT and proton therapy
  • Describe ongoing efforts for radiation omission in early-stage disease

This series incorporates an understanding of practice dynamics and concerns throughout the state of North Carolina, and the availability of clinical trials and subspecialty expertise to inform care.
