William Wood, MD, MPH will review ways to expand traditional clinic-based cancer navigation to population-based cancer navigation using a central navigation approach. We will discuss how this approach can foster equity in care delivery and outcomes, while incorporating new initiatives that promote quality improvement. We will also talk about how this work fits into the current national environment that surrounds cancer navigation, including the recent development of a learning community and of new proposed billing codes that support the delivery of navigation services.

The experience of incarceration is associated with higher allcause and cancer-specific mortality rates, making it an important to consider as a social determinant of health. Andrea Knittel, MD, PhD will introduce the epidemiology of cancer in prisons and jails, describe the massive cancer health disparities that are created and exacerbated by the criminal legal system, and inspire action to improve cancer care for patients impacted by the criminal legal system.
