Understanding the Psychosocial Needs of Patients Experiencing Cancer – SPOC

This lecture will discuss the psychosocial needs of patients experiencing cancer. It will also provide information about resources that are available to family members during the cancer journey.

Target Audience

These courses are designed for students enrolled in health sciences programs and the community colleges across the state of North Carolina.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the spectrum of psychosocial needs for individuals experiencing cancer during diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship or end-of-life care.
  • Define the role that mental health professionals play in meeting the psychosocial needs of cancer patients.
  • Discuss professional services that are available to patients and their families during a cancer experience.
  • Discuss the importance of collaboration and teamwork in meeting the psychosocial needs of cancer patients.
