Allison Phillips, MPAP, MHPE, PA-C, will review the clinical manifestations, underlying causes, and management of some of the most common emergencies facing patients undergoing cancer treatment, including Superior Vena Cava Syndrome, Hypercalcemia, and SIADH.

Learning Objectives

  • Compare the clinical synopses for 3 different oncologic emergencies that a healthcare provider may encounter in an emergency or primary care setting.
  • Describe the clinical overview of superior vena cava syndrome as it relates to a cancerous etiology. 
  • Describe the management of hypercalcemia in cancer patients.
  • Describe the management of SIADH in patients undergoing cancer treatment.
