Jethro Hu, MD, will review the rationale and current evidence supporting the potential role of a ketogenic diet for brain tumor patients, focusing on a recently completed phase 1 safety and feasibility trial.

Target Audience

These courses are intended for medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, hematologists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, radiologic technologists, researchers, pharmacists, trainees, and others who are interested in care of patients with cancer in North Carolina.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the mechanisms by which the ketogenic diet may have anticancer activity.
  • Discuss the design and results of a phase 1 safety and feasibility trial of a ketogenic diet plus standard care for patients with recently diagnosed glioblastoma.
  • Recognize the challenges of implementing and studying a ketogenic diet for patients and research scientists.
