Embracing Indigenous Wisdom in Evidence Based Cancer Prevention: A Path of Collaboration, Respect, and Insight on Duke’s Voyage” is a presentation that explores the partnership between modern scientific research and indigenous wisdom in the pursuit of effective cancer prevention strategies. It underscores the humility in learning from indigenous knowledge, and the discovery of insights that can enhance evidence-based approaches to cancer prevention.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the relationship of Indigenous knowledge systems in cancer prevention and its integration into evidence-based practice.
  • Discuss the importance of diverse knowledge systems in relation to Indigenous perspectives in healthcare.
  • Discuss the importance of diverse knowledge systems in relation to Indigenous perspectives in healthcare.
  • Explain the relationship between modern science and indigenous wisdom in the field of cancer prevention.
  • Describe the findings and implications from a cancer health needs assessment project in the Lumbee, Haliwa-Saponi, and Coharie Tribes of North Carolina.
