Caring for the Patient with Head and Neck Cancer – SPOC

Discussion of cancers of the head and neck, including risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment and survival. Discussion will also include information on the HPV vaccine. Side effects of treatment will be discussed including the emotional impact and quality of life issues.

Target Audience

These courses are designed for students enrolled in health sciences programs and the community colleges across the state of North Carolina.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the modifiable/non-modifiable risk factors for cancers of the head & neck, as well as signs and symptoms.
  • Identify the major treatment modalities, and at least 3 major side effects of these treatments.
  • Discuss the emotional impact and quality of life issues with cancers of the head and neck.
