
Caring for Older Adults with Cancer: Who, When, Where, Why, and How?
Dr. Jolly will begin by introducing and defining geriatric oncology. He will review statistics related to the aging population and how it relates to cancer. (10 minutes). He will then discuss important points related to aging patients and important questions related to geriatric oncology patients and goals of treatment. (10 minutes). He will discuss what is known as the “Geriatric Oncology Iceberg” and review a brief Geriatric Assessment Tool (10 minutes). Dr. Jolly will spend the remainder of the session discussing case studies and reviewing questions that show practical uses of geriatric assessment tools in routine practice. He will end with an algorithm to help determine treatment for geriatric oncology patients (20 minutes). The session will close with Q&A (5-10 minutes).
