This year, nearly 85,000 adolescents and young adults (AYAs; ages 15-39) will receive a cancer diagnosis. This patient population faces unique challenges distinct from pediatric and older adult patients, including considerations around reproductive health. This talk will explore the issues of fertility preservation, contraception and sexual health among AYAs with cancer.

Healthcare providers supporting oncology patients may experience burnout and compassion fatigue. The objectives of this lecture are threefold: First, help participants identify signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and North Carolina, accounting for more deaths than the next three most common cancers combined. This high burden of mortality and concomitant morbidity make the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer all the more important. Jason Akulian, MD, MPH, MBA will presents an update on the early detection, diagnosis and management of lung cancer at UNC.
