The North Carolina American Indian Adult Tobacco Survey: Wave 1 Findings - SAICEP Webinar
Webinar InformationWebinar Description Commercial tobacco use remains a leading cause of premature death in the United States and disproportionately affects American Indian (Al) adults. National surveys estimate the current cigarette smoking prevalence for Al adults is 27%; however, state-level and tribe specific data are limited. North Carolina (NC) is home to eight state-recognized tribes. A collaboration was established between the NC Commission of Indian Affairs, the NC Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch, and the Southeastern American Indian Cancer Health Equity Partnership to develop and implement the NC American Indian Adult Tobacco Survey, a commercial tobacco use survey with and for tribal communities to assess overall use among Al residents and by tribal affiliation. The webinar will share findings from Wave 1 of the survey as well as discuss the successful community-engagement approach for survey implementation. Learning Objectives
