Baines, PhD This lecture was the first of many conversations from researchers and health professionals based at NCCU, UNC, and NC A&T about the family of diseases we call Cancer. For this particular lecture, we focus on some of the basic concepts and characteristics that define cancer and discuss why it is such a devastating problem for our society. We also discussed why it seems to negatively plaque minority communities the most. |

We explore risk factors associated with breast cancer and discuss ways that breast cancer disparities are being addressed through research, community outreach, and diversifying the healthcare field. |
Exploring Cancer Participation Presented on: October 20, 2023 Pancreatic Cancer: Overview, Health Disparities, and Survivor Interview Yolanda M. VanRiel, PhD, RN, MEDSURG-BC, OCN, CNE, ACUE, ANEF Karyn Green, MS Sydney Taylor, BA This lecture provides an overview of pancreatic cancer. We will discuss pancreatic cancer types, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatments. We will also explore pancreatic health disparities, genetic testing, and tests for detecting pancreatic cancer early. Lastly, an interview with a pancreatic cancer survivor will be presented to show the impact of pancreatic cancer on the patient and family. |
