Caring for the Patient with Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Multiple Myeloma – SPOC

Thomas C. Shea, MD will describe what these diseases are and how they manifest in most patients, the sort of general treatments required for each of these diseases, and what the needs are for patients and their caregivers while patients are undergoing treatment. He will also discuss anticipated complications and outcomes resulting from treatment for these diseases and long-term issues faced by patients treated for these diseases.

Target Audience

These courses are designed for students enrolled in health sciences programs and the community colleges across the state of North Carolina.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop a general understanding of the diseases described above
  • Understand the needs for optimal care of patients with these diseases
  • Understand the sorts of resources needed to achieve the best outcomes for patients with these diseases
  • Recognize problems requiring special care during the course of caring for people with these disease
