Gynecologic Cancers: A Team Approach to Women’s Health Care
Daniel Clarke-Pearson, MD, and Lyn Filip, RN, BSN, OCN, will discuss the multidisciplinary management and care of women with gynecologic cancers (cervix, uterine and ovarian cancer). The lecture will incorporate anatomy, incidence, risk factors, early signs, spread of cancer and the first visit to a gynecologic oncologist for women with endometrial, ovarian and cervical cancers.
Target Audience
These courses are designed for students enrolled in health sciences programs and the community colleges across the state of North Carolina.
Learning Objectives
Discuss the common signs and symptoms of cervix, uterine and ovarian cancers.
Describe the value of pap smears and HPV vaccination in the prevention of cervical cancer.
Describe the methods used to diagnose cervix, uterine and ovarian cancer.
Identify risk factors and screening tests used appropriately for gynecologic cancers.
Discuss HPV vaccination, the need, timing of vaccinations and outcomes.
